Selflessness would initially seem to be an odd record, with two cuts from Newport in '63 and a studio cut from 1965, but the LP is the picture of beauty. Almost a passionate, other worldly love note. Each of the three tracks fit into this mood, so the album is a success. The side-long version of "My Favorite Things" is obviously the main attraction here, and it is a rewarding track. Trane sounds like an angel that happened to land onstage in Newport, Rhode Island with a saxophone. Maybe not an essential album (and hard to find at that), but this is essential music in any form.
